Edward U. Condon
In 1967 we had a small, literary magazine called Clod & Pebble. In one issue we dealt
with "flying saucers" and one of our fellows, who was a John Birch Society member
and Section Leader, was incensed that Edward U. Condon was given the Air Force
contract for the study of UFOs, using the University of Colorado facilities.

Our concern was that Mr. Condon was considered a "security risk" twenty years
earlier but would have access to top secret or, at least, secret information in his capacity as head of the Colorado study.

We instigated queries and clarifications, even talking to Mr. Condon who told us that he would resign the Colorado assignment if the matter of his earlier security problems surfaced anew.

Our little magazine didn't have enough clout to press the issue, but it was a matter of some concern for a while. However, nothing serious came of it, but you can see the various responses we got from the Air Force, other government agencies, and private organizations in the following material(s).

Looking back, I regret we didn't make the matter more intense, perhaps bringing about an objective result from the Colorado study rather than the dismissive patina that Mr. Condon foisted on the public.....
N.B. This latter material, the John Birch quote, came about because our inquiry and the mail receipt to H. L.
Hunt (the wealthy Texas oilman who was a rabid right-winger) was our attempt to get some funding from him
to pursue the matter further.

As for J. R. Wiggins, I can't recall who he was or why we tried to contact him.
